Spaceballs

I know people go on about how great Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein is, and sure they're good, but my favourite Mel Brooks comedy has always been Spaceballs. It's got a very funny cast, great jokes and nods to sci-fi films, and Rick Moranis is absolutely priceless as Dark Helmet. Even my kids find it hilarious. Highly recommended if you like parody films.

Plot Synopsis:

The planet Spaceball is running out of air. President Skroob and Dark Helmet have a plan to steal the air from Planet Druidia. Princess Vespa fleeing her impending wedding to Prince Valium are captured by Dark Helmet who intends to hold her hostage, forcing her father to give them the key to the air shield so they can siphon off Druidia's air. The Druish King contacts Lonestar and his sidekick Barf to rescue the princess. They agree to rescue her, so they can use the reward money to pay back a debt to Pizza the Hutt. They rescue the princess, but use up all their fuel fleeing Dark Helmet.

They crash on a desert world where they encounter Schwartz Master Yoghurt, who teaches Lonestar to use the power of the Schwartz. Dark Helmet eventually tracks them down and kidnaps the princess again. Dark Helmet forces the King to give up the air shield code. Lonestar rescues the Princess from the detention facility on Planet Spaceball.

As Dark Helmet prepares starts to siphon the air from Druidia, Lonestar interferes and using the Schwartz restores Druidia's air. They then infiltrate Dark Helmet's ship, and Lonestar faces Dark Helmet. During the battle, Lonestar initiates the self destruct on Dark Helmet's ship, and it is destroyed, marooning Helmet and the remaining Spaceballs on the Planet of the Apes.

Vespa returns to her wedding, but Lonestar stops the wedding when he discovers he is a lost prince. He marries the princess instead.
