Pow! Right in the noggin

8:49 AM

Got a call from school this morning. About 15 minutes after dropping Beeb off, he managed to whack himself in the head with a steel baseball bat. He's struggling to remember what happened, and as usual everybody around him is swearing they had nothing to do with it, but he thinks the other boys were throwing lots of balls at him, he hit one, and the bat flew back into his head. Must have been throwing those balls pretty hard?! Anyway, the school rings in a panic, "What should we do?" - uh duh! Get some medical attention. I rushed back, grabbed him and took him to the doctors. He'd gone a really yellow Simpsons-like color, and threw up (which believe it or not isn't a bad thing when your worrying about concussion). He was pretty upset, because the doctor wanted to put stitches in. Quite possibly the worst thing any parent has to endure with their children - holding them down, while doctor's work on them. It's hard not to be reduced to tears when they're screaming, crying, and wriggling. Somehow we managed to get the anaesthetic in, and when it came time to put the stitches in, it was much easier. By the end of it, he was starting to look a more normal color, and bragging about how brave he was. I ended up working from home for the day, to make sure he didn't have any brain damage. He says he's going to stick to Xbox now, as it's probably safer than baseball.
